The Equinox has us smack dab in the middle of seasons. One day it is 70 degrees, the next we are buried under 18 inches of snow. It is as if we slow down to speed up.
In April, we are in the midst of change. The seeds of our goals and new dreams that we planted in January are growing, even if there is no evidence, yet.
With the change of seasons, we can begin to change our daily rituals, which is the first step to moving forward.
For this process to work, you are going to need to create a dedicated time each day. Start with just fifteen minutes daily. It’s a good start. Thirty minutes is better. Forty-five minutes is excellent.
Here is the rub, the hard stuff, the reality you all must face. Nothing changes until you change it.
Your first step is making a commitment to yourself, to caring for yourself. Is that little voice inside your head protesting? It will.
“Time, where is there any time for me?” You ask.
I get that. There have been times when I have been so tired, the moment I stopped moving I fell asleep—even in the bathtub. Just start. Begin with your intentions, focusing on what you desire.
Just changing your rituals changes your outcomes. Self-care is now your priority. Remember, self-care is not selfish. Repeat after me, self-care is not selfish.
Get out your pen. Look at your schedule. Pick a time slot, set your reminders and make your commitment to self-care.
Take each day’s time slot on, write in something you can do to care for yourself. Be sure to add some fun, at least, two to three times in the upcoming week.
- Meet friends for coffee and don’t talk about disability—talk about dreams.
- Get a massage or a mani-pedi.
- Take a fifteen-minute walk.
- Write in your journal.
- Look for a class to take. (I took dance classes)
- Take up a passion from the past. ( I took up tennis and skiing again)
Be creative. Find an interest, be passionate.
Change your rituals and change your life.
